Donald John Trump, born June 14, 1946, was inaugurated as the 45th President of the United States on January 20, 2017, after he defeated Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the general election of 2016. He is the oldest person ever to assume the presidency and the first without prior military or government service. He was preceded by Barack Obama, who was in office for two terms between January 20, 2009 and January 20, 2017.
